STUDENTS & HOUSESHARES

One room. Plenty to carry.

Student moves look small until the books, kitchen bits, desk, clothes, bedding and boxes pile up. We can help you plan the trip without treating it like a five-bedroom relocation.

THE DETAILS

A practical student moving checklist

Sheffield's student moves often involve short handover windows and shared properties. A little preparation saves a lot of confusion.

Make your own room inventory

Start with the large items: desk, chair, drawers, mattress or bed (if yours), television, bikes and boxes. Estimate how many bags and suitcases you will have. Be clear about the things that belong to housemates.

Check hall or landlord rules

Confirm key collection or check-out times, whether the lift can be used, and where loading is permitted. Take a quick video showing the route from your room to the street if it looks awkward.

Shared houses and multiple stops

If several people want separate drops, tell us before we quote. Each stop changes the journey and unloading time. Label belongings by destination so they do not end up in the wrong room.

If you are moving into private rented housing

Ask for the check-in inventory and record the condition of the property as you move in. The University of Sheffield Students’ Union moving-in guide has useful tenancy pointers.
